Community Centered: Interview with Cynthia Arevalos

April 30, 2016,  is hairstylist appreciation day, and in honor of this day, I interviewed my stylist Cynthia Arevalos.  Cynthia's been working her magic on my hair for over a year.  Her caring nature and discerning eye for detail is what makes her great to work with.  She's a true perfectionist when it comes to hercraft.

How long have you been a cosmetologist?

I've been a stylist for 7 years.  It was a serendipitous journey; I always took an interest to styling shows on television and loved like Nick Arrojo and Ted Gibson perform their craft. Realizing I wanted to have that same knowledge; I attended the cosmetology program at San Jose City College and was very disciplined in learning the ins and outs.  I took some time off and worked as a care taker but my love and passion for this industry brought me back.

What do you love about your job?

I love having a career  centered around people and making them feel wonderful inside and out.

What do you enjoy working on?

I love anything Balayage, natural sun kissed to vivid hues. Cutting is also another art I love as I love creating movement to compliment the face shape.

What products or service do you recommend to clients who are dealing with dry, damaged or overly processed hair?

I recommend Olaplex to clients who come in for chemical services as it is insurance for their hair.  It fortifies bonds and stops breakage from happening during the color service.  It is a salon service and there's a take home product. The take home product strengthens and helps pre-treat their hair for their next service.

I also recommend Redken's Chemistry Treatment as an add on service.  Redken's Chemistry treatments is a system that is customized for individual hair needs.  It helps add shine, gloss, seal the hair cuticles and strengthen.  For dry, damaged hair, there's the Extreme Shot, which fortifies chemically distressed hair and strengthens the internal fiber.

The above portfolio is a small teaser as to what Cynthia can create as a stylist and colorist.  If you're looking to change your routine up a bit and try something new, you can reach her at:
